If you have email, you’ve been sent something about Friendship Day at some point. It’s usually a cute message that we read (or not) then delete knowing it was created to have us send more email!

Truth is, there IS actually a Friendship Day – in fact there are two! Back in 1919 Hallmark establish National Friendship Day as the first Sunday in August. It died off over the years, but was resurrected in 1998 when the U.N. designated Winnie the Pooh as the World’s Ambassador of Friendship and set International Friendship Day as July 30.

So, celebrate your friends and friendships by sharing some cookies internationally on July 30 or nationally on August 7 this year. We’ll package them up into a sharable box or individually wrap them for single giveaways. No matter how you celebrate, it’s a great time to be thankful for friends.

On Saturday, November 29, 2014, Canadians nationwide will be encouraged to make a local purchase and take advantage of exclusive event day deals offered by the businesses in their neighbourhood.

Shop The Neighbourhood is a FREE national initiative of Yellow Pages which supports small businesses and reminds Canadians how local shopping makes a difference in all our lives.

Events are happening in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, and Ottawa.

After a successful event in Toronto in 2013, this year’s Shop The Neighbourhood will include Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Ottawa. On November 29, 2014, Canadians are encouraged to support their local neighbourhood businesses.

Any business in Vancouver can participate. The Mount Pleasant BIA is pleased to assist it’s members and other Main Street businesses with information about how to get involved and take full advantage of this opportunity.
